And the winner is...

This monday was the NPOX festival.
I was invited because the winner of the gamejam was going to be announced. Yeah the gamejam. The gamejam I participated in a few weeks back.

My name was put foreward by teacher/counsellor JP van Seventer who now works for the Dutch Game Garden. And I thank him for that.
The experience was something new. Valuable and a great way to learn more about different people. Not to mention that it was a break from gruesome brainstorms I endured in the past.

So our job was to make a new version of the news, the news in 60 seconds, more attractive to the target-audience in the form of a game.
What we did was make a widget that incorporated game-elements and gave you the chance to express your opinion in 60 seconds and sharing it with others.
We thought it was a great idea (you gotta be confident about your own concept), and maybe it was, but it wasn't great enough.
We sadly didn't won first prize, but shared second. So that's almost just as good.

The winners got their idea to be made and the "losers", yeah that's us, also got a chance, but in the form of DIY. We could still try to publish our idea, because the client was pleased to see all ideas. And since every team consisted of a few people from a gamedesign-company, it's certainly possible for every team to continue, if they wanted to.

On a sidenote, the first prize winners got a fancy pansy Playstation 3. Too bad I didn't win. But... the second prize peeps got a dandy Nintendo DS. My luck never ends.
So now I can participate again in the handheld-community. Of course my PSP also helped, but I only use that for movies.

But I didn't do it for the prize of course. We only found out there was a prize involved when the winners were announced. And the whole experience, consisting of the networks I build and people I've met, is perhaps more valuable...

Care to commment this?
